Flex Play
Flex Play, formerly called Extended Play, pilot programs consist of three main forms. Extra Concurrent is defined as a program of select teams made up of players that play in both Primary Play and Flex Play program teams. Often they will practice and play with the normal Primary program team and then maybe one additional practice and game each week with the select, try-out team of the higher skilled players. Extra A/B is defined as a program of select teams made up of players that are only in the Flex Play program. So while still concurrent with the Primary Play season, the players themselves are exclusive to one form of play or the other. Extra A/B team players are considered to have played in the Primary Play program for purposes of Secondary Play. As a result, once the Primary Play program ends, Flex Play players become Secondary Play if kept together longer. Club is defined and organized at an Area level to allow a league of skill-based teams to interplay and play with outside, Club-organization teams in their leagues and tournaments. AYSO principles still apply to AYSO teams but may not be applicable to non-AYSO teams involved in the league. See Presentation and the summary of presentation given at the 2009 Section Conferences. This is a new program being introduced to standardize the many variations of play occurring across the regions. Some were rogue while others originated in National Board granted concept trials that never seemed to expire or get more clearly defined. With this new program, all existing forms of play other than governed by the Primary and Tournament play now fall under this banner.
